St Stithians Online School Workshops

St Stithians Online School (SSOS), the 8th school in our community, recently presented two workshops to various members of the St Stithians community. The workshops were hosted by our SSOS Head of School Tessa Venter and were presented by team members from Valenture Institute who are our academic partners. 

The first workshop focussed on academics in an online school with a particular focus on the purpose built environment the online school offers. Heads of Schools, Deputy Heads and Digital Learning Coaches from all the St Stithians Schools were among those who attended the workshop.The afternoon was an opportunity for all the schools to learn about the academic process at the online school. A real take away from the afternoon was learning about the design and implementation process of the curriculum. It showed how St Stithians Online School will contribute hugely to the culture of academic excellence that St Stithians prides itself on. 

The second workshop looked at the socio-emotional support of students in our online school. The workshop was again presented by members of our partner, Valenture Institute and hosted by our SSOS head of School. The afternoon was a chance for heads of schools, educational psychologists and digital learning coaches among others, to see how St Stithians Online School supports students and families in the online space. The workshop demonstrated how the role of the mentor is key to an SSOS student’s success. Perfectly summed up by Storm Clery, head of student success at Valenture Institute, “every teenager needs a champion and we see our mentors as our students' champions”. 

“These workshops were an incredible opportunity for some of our St Stithians community to come together and share insights and innovations. These afternoons certainly highlighted the incredible culture of community and collaboration within the St Stithians family and we are proud to be the eighth school in this incredible ecosystem”.
