St Stithians College Basketball u16 Tournament

ST STITHIANS u16 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2023
Our signature St Stithians U16 Basketball Tournament took place from 10 - 12 February and it was a celebration of basketball action and talent. Our 2023 Tournament played host to 5th year of the Boys' College Tournament and the Inaugural Girls' College Tournament and both were a huge success. Due to weather challenges, the Boys’ Tournament was moved from our Saints Basketball precinct to the Brixton Community Centre and the Girls’ Tournament was hosted by St Peter's College and Sacred Heart College. The weather did not dampen the spirits of our players or supporters and it was a wonderful weekend of basketball action and camaraderie from our participating teams.
Congratulations to St John’s College for winning the Boys’ Tournament and Sacred Heart College for winning the inaugural Girls’ Tournament with some truly inspired play. We share with you below the Results and Final Placings Documents which include the All Star Teams for both the Boys' and Girls' Tournaments.

Basketball - U16 Basketball Tournament (By Seann Rubinek, Director of Basketball for St Stithians Boys’ College)
The 3rd Annual St Stithians College U16 Basketball Tournament has come and gone and what a Tournament it was! After three days of intense basketball, Soweto’s very own Morris Isaacson High School pipped St John’s College 63-60 in what is being called the most thrilling and entertaining tournament final so far!
24 teams from, Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape, and North-West provinces, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Namibia took part. Interesting to note that all teams lost at least one game in the group stages which shows the high level of competition exhibited this year. From tip-off on Friday morning teams put in their all. Our Boys’ College U16s had a tough time with a loss in their first game against St Benedict’s College, however they recovered well and went on to beat Michaelhouse convincingly and breezed past Queens College. But it wasn’t to be in the quarter finals where they faced a tough fired up Jeppe side. The boys lost 15 - 25.
The finals though between Morris Isaacson and St John’s College proved to be a most thrilling affair with the lead going back and forth and the teams giving their all. However Morris Isaacson could not be denied as they held onto a slight 63 - 60 lead till the final whistle sending the crowd into a frenzy. Great gesture by Morris Isaacson when they formed a tunnel for St John’s College during the prize giving. After three years of being sponsored as our Development Team, what a moment it was when the young boys from Soweto lifted the Cup at the most prestigious U16 Basketball Tournament thus closing the curtain on the 2020 St Stithians U16 Basketball Tournament.
