“She gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger – was no room for them to stay in the inn.” GNB Luke 2:7

Once again as we make our way through this Season of Advent the wonder and the mystery of Christmas never fails to have a profound effect upon Christians in the whole world. However, it is sad that for some people it has no spiritual significance whatsoever. One can ask: why? The commercial and wild entertainment places such an emphasis that the real meaning of this Holy time has been overshadowed for a large percentage of the world’s population who appear to attach considerably more significance to Santa Clause than to the Christ Child.

When Jesus was born, He came as the Saviour of the world despite that the time was not all that different from our modern society. Even in those days indifference, violence and injustice were rife and people were so concerned about themselves that there was no place in the pattern of their lives for the Son of God.

Friends, whatever you may encounter this Christmas, be it joy or sadness, success or failure, fulfilment or disappointment please remember that God is with you to lift you when you stumble or make flops. I challenge you to open your heart to Jesus this Christmas and let Him carry you through the days that lie ahead.

As you enjoy time alone or with family this Christmas do not deny Christ's entry to your life. Just open your heart to Him and experience for yourself the fullness of joy that is Christmas. Continue life’s journey in the days that lie ahead, set your course by fixing your spiritual eyes upon the Saviour of the world who will be your guiding star to peace and goodwill throughout your days. We heard Him declare to us that “God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

My prayer for you is; May the peace of Christ enfold you, May the love of Christ possess you, May the spirit of Christ direct you and May the joy of Christ be in you and in your family.

Yours truly, Rev Dan Nkomo – Superintendent  Chaplain.
