Outdoor Education

Grade 9 Kamoka Camp

Outdoor Education has been integrated as a new pillar at the College based on the importance and awareness derived from our impact and involvement in the environment. The purpose of this focus area is both camp and curriculum based. St Stithians has a rich history of promoting our students’ growth through their interaction with outdoor activities as well as developing a responsibility to become globally responsible citizens. We ensure that the boys leave the school being keystone individuals, men who give more than they take, and whose actions have a positive impact on the environmental web to which they are closely connected.

Outdoor education can be divided into various areas, including:

  • A student-run wildlife rehabilitation centre which releases animals, birds and reptiles onto the St Stithians Campus
  • Focus weeks which promote recycling, carbon footprint, water awareness and other conservation initiatives
  • Tree planting
  • Environmental service including an environmentally focussed Presidents’ Award;
  • Camps: including a Grade 8 orientation camp, a 3 week Grade 9 Kamoka camp, Grade 10 Schoemanskloof Hike and Grade 11 Leadership Camp at Spirit of Adventure
  • Outdoor Clubs and Societies such as Aviation, Fly Fishing, Scuba Diving, Mountain Biking and the Nature Club
  • Bush experiences at Tuli Wilderness Camp in Botswana and Welgevonden Reserve in the Waterberg
