Girls’ Preparatory News

As a rural science student, one of Ms Zondo’s most memorable experiences was learning outside. She recalls being awestruck by the wonderful, healing properties of an aloe plant. Outdoor education piqued her interest as a youngster, and learning outside the classroom helped shape Ms Zondo into the innovative science teacher that St Stithians Girls’ Prep is fortunate to have today.

On Tuesday, 19 October, iStore Education held their annual Excellence in Education awards for primary schools across South Africa.

St Stithians College celebrates Anna Rammupya for having worked with us for 25 years. She received a Long Service award in honour of her valued contribution over the years. Her journey with us has been documented on our Saints HR Website Saints HR Department - Staff Connect (google.com).

In the past six weeks, we have seen a high level of engagement and wonderment in our IBL-STEAM lessons. The mystery of two sex cells that form a living body has been the focal point in our Biology section. Students have asked us some tough, yet fascinating, questions and this has revealed an extraordinary level of thinking. We are extremely proud of our students’ inquisitive nature. ​

The Grade 5 Social Sciences Unit of Inquiry (UOI) this term was: “Mzansi, our Rainbow Nation, whose story, is it?” 

Funds are raised throughout the year towards a visible legacy that our Grade 7 girls leave annually.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2021, we highlight The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11 February. It is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls in science.

The Grade 5 – 7 girls had a Diversity and Transformation Barazza, themed 'Change Makers'.  

Wednesday, 3 February, was official World Read Aloud Day!

Outdoor Education was introduced into the GP daily programme on our first return to school after hard lockdown. It proved so popular with the girls and parents, we have decided, somewhat ambitiously, to try and keep it in our timetabled curriculum for 2021.

Girls' Prep Rainbow Heritage Day, theme acknowledges and celebrates the diverse cultures, faiths, and peoples in our Saints community as well as the broader national community.

Pastor Lisa Moseneke a Senior Children’s Pastor at Bryanston Methodist Church shared a Tribute of Nelson Mandela with Girls’ Prep at assembly this week.
