World Read Aloud Day

February 03, 2021 | Girls’ Preparatory | Author: Sian May

Our girls were delighted to join in with 3 million other South African children as we all heard the same story, written especially for the occasion by a staff member at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Education Innovation, Sihle Nontshokweni.

This year was the 12th commemoration of the day, which celebrates the power of reading aloud and the impact this can have on children and adults alike.

Special thanks to our chapel fellowship committee and our librarian, Ms Rammupya, who were expert entertainers. No doubt about it, our girls loved hearing the story of, “Fly, Everyone, Fly!” Hopefully, next year our girls will take up the challenge of writing their own stories for Read Aloud Day so that we can treat the Girls’ and Boys’ Prep to some real home-grown talent!
