The Boys' College cultural tour to Portugal was a phenomenal success!

In Lisbon, tour guide Vera Lourenco took our students and staff on a bus-guided tour of the city. They hopped on the famous tram 28, enjoying the ride through the old part of the city to Portas do Sol. The view from there was breath-taking, with São Jorge Castle, the Tagus River, and the red rooftops of Lisbon captivating. They also explored the maze-like streets, admiring the beautiful blue tiled facades and vibrant street art.

They immersed themselves in the rich history of Lisbon. A visit to the ruins of Carmo Church, marvelling at its Gothic architecture and intricate stonework. Sao Roque Church left them in awe with its emblazoned decoration, miniaturist mosaic work, and stained-glass windows. They explored various chapels, each showcasing unique Portuguese Baroque and Mannerist styles.

Venturing into the lively neighbourhood of Belem they savoured delicious custard tarts at Pastéis de Belém and admired the vibrant street life. The Jerónimos Monastery stood as a testament to Portugal's maritime past, featuring stunning Manueline architecture and intricate limestone carvings. They were able to visit The Museu Coleção Berardo, home to an impressive collection of influential art movements. Later, they indulged in a Fado show and a scrumptious three-course dinner at Pateo de Alfama, savoring every moment of the cultural experience.

Our students were offered a unique perspective as they joined a walking street art tour. They learned about the different modes of street art and even had the chance to create their own graffiti. Thereafter some city exploration, souvenir shopping, and attending an exciting local football match between Sporting Lisbon and Arouca.

A thrilling extended boat ride with Taruga Benagil Tours in Albufria and a cliff-top cycle tour, admiring the stunning beaches and magnificent caves were lifetime experiences that will forever be etched in their memories.

From the captivating city of Lisbon to the vibrant streets of Belem and the natural wonders of Albufria, each moment was filled with magic and awe. It was a great reminder of the endless possibilities that exist in this beautiful country - Portugal truly left an indelible mark.
