Youth Day Synergy Event - From Struggles to Successes

June 27, 2025 | Boys’ College

On 17 June 2025, our campus was filled with the spirit of reflection, unity, and purpose as the Boys’ and Girls’ College came together to commemorate Youth Day. This collaborative event, led by the Student Representative Council (SRC) and supported by the Diversity and Transformation Committee (DTC), embraced the powerful theme: “From Struggles to Successes.” The programme encouraged us to honour the bravery of the youth of 1976 while looking ahead with hope, vision, and responsibility.
As one community, we were reminded that remembering the past only holds meaning when it inspires action in the present.

A stirring performance by The Dukes (BC) and Harmony (GC) brought the message of solidarity to life through music, lifting spirits and deepening our connection to the day’s purpose.

The keynote address was delivered by Kwande Bam, a proud Saints alumnus (Deputy Head boy 2023) and the current Chairperson of the South African Students Congress (SASCO). Kwande shared his personal journey and spoke powerfully about the realities facing students in higher education today, from rising costs and mental health struggles to the ongoing fight for accessible, free education.

His message was both a call to action and a reminder: young people have both the right and the responsibility to lead change.

The assembly left our community inspired and proud. It was a fitting tribute to the youth of 1976 and a powerful prompt for us all to carry their legacy forward through the choices we make today.
