Saints shines at RMB Buffalo Regatta 2025
Since 1881, the Buffalo Regatta has taken place every year barring 1948 due to the World War, and 2021 due to Covid-19, giving the event the title of the oldest consistent sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere. This year, once again, our St Stithian Rowers travelled to East London to compete at this prestigious regatta. The event is run over three days with a combination of the 2000m Buffalo Regatta and the 500m Sprints Regatta. This historic event, known for its challenging tidal river and intense weather conditions, provided a thrilling backdrop for our athletes’ remarkable performances.
Both our boys’ and girls’ teams faced the elements in true Saints style, with determination and skill. A special congratulations goes to our U15 boys’ age group, who achieved outstanding success by winning gold in the 1x and 8x+ events. Additionally, our boys’ 1st 8+ beat St Benedicts for the 1st time this season to win gold, demonstrating their exceptional teamwork and strength.
Our girls’ 1st and 2nd teams also made us proud by securing silver in the 1st 1x, 1st 2x, 4+ and 1st 4x+ events, and Gold in the 2nd 1x, 2nd 2x, and 2nd 4x+. Furthermore, our U16 girls earned a silver in the 1x and bronze in the 2- events.
Over the three days, our rowers took to the challenging Buffalo River tides and winds, and performed at an exceptional level. We are incredibly proud of them for their outstanding efforts and sportsmanship. Their performances at the Buffalo Regatta have set a high standard for the rest of the season, and we look forward to seeing their continued success.
Congratulations to all our rowers and coaches for their dedication and hard work. Here’s to many more victories on the water!
