Round Square Conference

September 25, 2015 | Girls’ College

"On Saturday the 14th of February, myself and 8 other grade 9 girls and 8 boys from the boys college made our way to the bus car park ready to begin our adventure. We got onto the bus with no idea what we were getting ourselves into.

On our way to Limpopo, we stopped and picked two other schools up from the airport. This was our first opportunity to make friends. 6 hours later, it felt like we had known them for years. We arrived at Stanford lake college eager and ready to start the activities. We got given our rooms where we were able to create more friends because none of the girls in any given room were from the same school.  After free time where we were able to unpack, get to know everyone and swim in the lake, the opening ceremony began. Students from Stanford lake performed and each school was introduced. We had the rest of the day to relax as the activities began early the next morning.  Each morning would begin with a guest speaker. They ranged from people talking about our environment to people talking about social media. These talks would be followed by a day of activities.  We were put into small Barraza group which rotated between activities. We did community service, we went to a dairy farm, we did lake activities, we did adventure activities, we went zip lining and we went abseiling.  After the long days, we had reflection time in our Barraza groups. We spent the rest of the night with our new friends.  On the final day, we attended the closing ceremony where we all said goodbye to our friends.  We all had an amazing experience and we would like to thank Rev Jenny and Mrs Rowely for accompanying us and Mrs Ashton for allowing us the opportunity to go."
