A Taste of Handa’s Surprise
This week we explored the story Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne.
The children were introduced to the different fruits in the story. We spent time discussing each fruit, looking carefully at their colours and shapes, and smelling them to notice their unique scents. The children enjoyed sharing their observations and describing what they saw and noticed.
To bring the story to life, each child had a turn carrying a basket of fruit on their head, just like Handa. This was a wonderful sensory and balance activity that encouraged confidence and lots of laughter.
We then tasted the fruits together. Some, like passion fruit and guava, were new and exciting for many of the children. It was lovely to see their reactions as they explored different flavours and textures, expanding their experiences through taste.
