We are delighted to announce that our 2020 Matrics have excelled in the IEB’s matriculation examinations. The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) offers a rigorous assessment of the National Senior Certificate curriculum, preparing our students well for tertiary study. We will be highlighting the achievements of our top performers below. We wish also to stress our pride in each matriculant who has done their best. We thank our teachers, parents and community for pulling together with our students to enable them to achieve excellence and make a world of difference, especially during what was a particularly challenging year.

Our philosophy of learning and teaching promotes an academic culture that seeks to meet and extend the needs and styles of each student, enabling personalised and meaningful learning to take place. We pride ourselves on this approach, which seeks to optimise individual learning across the academic spectrum and includes enrolling a number of students with identified barriers to learning. We are proud of the top academic achievers, among the best in the country and whose results are documented individually, as well as of each student who has excelled against personal benchmarks.

Matric is a significant milestone on a long journey of learning. We acknowledge the contributions of the teachers at the Preparatory Schools of St Stithians College, as well as those of other Primary Schools that educated this year’s Matric cohort. We pay tribute to the impact of Kamoka Bush School on the lives of our students on their Saints journey and look forward with anticipation to celebrating the results of our Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy Saturday School students.

At this time of focus on the academic gateway of Matric, we affirm our commitment to the education of young people of character, who make an impact as leaders and citizens, shaped by a Methodist ethos. Academic learning is complemented by  a diverse and highly successful sporting, cultural, outdoor education and community engagement curriculum.

St Stithians College describes itself as a proudly South African school. This pride is central to our identity and together with our Methodist ethos and values, we were called in 2020 to stand on the bedrock of all that we hold dear. We are immensely proud of the young men and women of character who stood firm and who leave this College as the Class of 2020 to make their contributions to our beloved country and beyond.

Message from the Head of School

To the Girls’ College Matric Class of 2020 - A Message from Dr James about the Matric Results

Dear Matrics

SallyNewsletter

In our lives I believe that we will all experience defining years of our time – years of global significance that will shift our ways of doing, our ways of thinking, acting and simply being – years that have a profound impact on our journeys within the world. 2020 was most certainly a defining year and I feel proud knowing that your year group has emerged as a class of courageous and self-assured young women who have lived up to the notion StrongerOneAndAll. Congratulations on your outstanding academic achievements, these fine Matric results are testament to your very best efforts, your resilience and true grit which became necessities in navigating a truly challenging year. As a College community we pay tribute to each individual.

Today I commend you on your meaningful contribution to the Girls’ College over the past 5 years. You have led by example and remained a beacon of light and hope throughout what was a most challenging time for our school community.  In celebrating your achievements today, we pay tribute to One and All who have journeyed alongside you in support, care and encouragement, ensuring your individual growth and success. We can express collective gratitude to your teachers for their care and high quality instruction, and your families for their unwavering support and belief in you.

In addition, I acknowledge the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) for their fine administration of the examination process during very challenging times and for their assistance and efficiency in running a fair, valid and reliable high-stakes assessment.

The year 2020 taught us to appreciate the sacred nature of schools and classroom spaces. The living classroom and campus space are about so much more than just ‘sharing’ or imparting information, but rather about cultivating the intellectual, spiritual growth and physical development of each young person. During your time at the Girls’ College you have thrived in every way, fostering a sense of community, living out the values of a collective sisterhood and creating a space for every individual to thrive.

An unknown and somewhat volatile future beckons. As you set out to make your mark on the world, may the lessons and values learned at the Girls’ College guide your ways and govern your thinking. May you strive to lead lives through which you are actively engaged in fostering and developing meaningful relationships, collaborating through sharing your curiosities and talents, and importantly, thinking differently as you continue to challenge the status quo.

Keep close to your heart our Honour Code. I ask that God continue to walk alongside you and guide you onwards and upwards toward a higher purpose.

Warm wishes

Dr Sally James
