On Tuesday the 11th of June the Grade 10  Visual arts students visited the Standard Bank Art Gallery to view their current exhibition; 40 Years of Collecting: Celebrating the Standard Bank African Art Collection and Wits Art Museum. This exhibition marks the defining moments that have shaped our understanding of these many objects, artifacts, artworks, and cultural materials that are part of Africa and South Africa even today. Dr Same Mdluli, the curator of the exhibition gave an insightful walk through and shared her enthusiasm and knowledge of classical African art with our students.  As classical African art and African aesthetics form part of this terms curriculum, this excursion was a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain a deeper and more critical understanding and appreciation for classical African art.
