On the 13th April 2017 the excitement levels peaked for the 25 students and three teachers from  Girls' and Boys' College who gathered at O.R Tambo ready to make their way on the Cultural and English Tour to the USA. After two flights, that seemed never ending, we eventually landed at Dulles and headed for Washington DC where we immediately took a walk around the White House and through the Mall. It was cherry blossom season: the gardens were daubed with vibrant pink blossoms and the sun was shining.

The students were steeped in history and culture as they toured monuments, museums and galleries, but we still made time for fun activities: a basketball game, Madame Tussaud's and, of course, Six Flags. We went on through Pennsylvania to visit the battle sites at Gettysburg, an Amish Village and chocolate tasting at the Hershey factory before arriving in New York. Our sight-seeing included the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, NBC studios, the Holocaust Museum, MOMA and then there were the shows - six in total, all equally brilliant.

Our final destination was Boston but we stopped over in New Haven for a brief to visit to Yale University. We explored the Science Museum and MIT and on our final night bantered with the actors in the interactive murder-mystery "Sheer Madness."

Throughout the tour our girls displayed impeccable manners, keen interest, enthusiasm and kindness. I am sure they have made some wonderful memories and have returned enriched from their experiences.
