Dear Saints Family

2018 Matric Results

The release of the Matric results marks the final formal step of the Saints educational journey. We celebrate and give thanks for the achievements of each student in the Matric classes of the Boys’ College and the Girls’ College. The results are the fruit of team work, including teachers, parents and peers; and the efforts of each student. Together, our Matric classes have lived out the intent of St Stithians to inspire excellence and make a world of difference. Thank you, One and All.

At the core of our philosophy of educational excellence is a multi-faceted experience in which each student takes responsibility to ‘own’ his or her personal learning. There are many outcomes, with the Matric assessments being the ultimate academic indicator. We have encouraged our students to define and set their own personal benchmarks. We embrace academic diversity, varying learning styles and skill sets, including the enrolment of some students with identified barriers to academic learning. Our teachers create an enabling and stretching environment in which each student can optimise personalised learning, a platform for living life to the full. Supportive family members and peer friendships bring additional value.

The IEB Matric assessments are a significant external benchmark, both nationally and internationally recognised. The St Stithians Matric achievements are the collective indicator of academic excellence, the intersection of personal goals and the standards of the IEB. We are proud of our cohort of top academic achievers, who shine strongly among the best in the country and whose results are documented individually. We salute, too, each of our students who has excelled against personal benchmarks – a less public achievement, but one that is highly valued and appreciated.

Matric is the destination of an unfolding process of learning. We acknowledge the contributions of the teachers at the Preparatory Schools of St Stithians College, as well as those of other Primary Schools which educated this year’s Matric cohort. We pay tribute to the impact of Kamoka Bush School on the lives of students.

We affirm our commitment as St Stithians, shaped by our Methodist Church ethos, to the education of young people of character, who we expect to make an impact as leaders and citizens in South Africa, the rest of Africa and in a global context.

When the results of the Boys’ College and the Girls’ College are combined, our 246 candidates achieved a 100% Matric Pass Rate, a 97% Bachelor-Degree Pass Rate, and a total of 562 subject distinctions (80% or more). Seven students achieved the St Stithians summa cum laude award – an average of 90% and above. Sixteen students achieved 28 subject marks in the top 1% of all IEB candidates across 16 subjects. Reflecting our model of a College of Schools, the results of the Boys’ College and the Girls’ College are published separately. Please click on the links below for each school.

Our graduating Matrics join an illustrious and significant community of alumni, and we look forward to them staying in contact with, and contributing to, the College as Old Stithians and as parents of the future.

Yours sincerely
