A Joyful Welcome at the Grade R Chapel Service

Junior Preparatory, Campus

Our Grade R children were warmly welcomed to the Grade R year at a special Chapel Service that marked the beginning of their Readiness journey. The service opened with a beautiful moment as the children took turns ringing the chapel bell, a symbolic welcome to the school and all that lies ahead. Their excitement was unmistakable and set the tone for a truly memorable morning. We were especially thrilled to have the Rector, Mrs Gilardi and our Chair of Council, Ms Mashilwane in attendance.

The children sang beautifully during the service, filling the chapel with confidence and joy, while families looked on proudly. It was wonderful to see so many parents and caregivers in attendance, sharing in this meaningful milestone and supporting their children as they begin this new chapter.

We were also delighted to welcome the Boys’ College Head Boy, Nzuzo Bam and the Girls’ College Head Girl, Mihle Luthuli, who addressed the children and their families. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the journey ahead and the strong sense of community that spans across our schools.

A highlight of the service was the moment each Grade R child received a teddy bear as a special keepsake. Smiles lit up the chapel, and once back in their seats, the children could not stop showing their bears to friends, chatting excitedly and beaming with pride. In her address, the Head of School, Mrs Harris, gave the children an important and fun task: to think carefully and choose a name for their new teddy companion.

It was a lovely, joyful service that beautifully welcomed our Grade R children and their families into the school, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
