Round Square Adventures!

On Friday 18 February, eight intrepid Grade 9 students joined the Boys’ College and delegates from 11 other schools from around South Africa and Germany, for a four-day conference at Stanford Lake College in Limpopo. As this was the first face-to-face gathering for two years, there was great excitement as we boarded the bus on our way to the misty mountains of Magoebaskloof.

The theme of the 2022 Round Square Conference for 14- to 15-year-olds was Life – Through Adventure, and it really was aptly named! During our stay we went on torch-lit evening hikes, zip-lined over three giant waterfalls, engaged in physically demanding community service at Glenshiel Primary School, teamed up for a challenging adventure race, and heard from inspirational professional extreme adventurer Pieter van Kets, who was one of the first Africans to ever race across Antarctica to the South Pole and row solo across the Atlantic. By the end of our trip, we were exhausted but thrilled to have been part of such an incredible event.

Of all these exciting activities, the biggest treat was meeting like-minded adventurous spirits who befriended, supported and encouraged us through even the toughest of challenges. This was a truly inspiring and epic experience.
