“This award is made annually in memory of Lindsay Bennett, a Founder pupil of St Stithians Girls’ College.  Lindsay’s tragic death in a motor accident during her Grade 11 year had a profound impact on the school in its formative years and her peers introduced an annual award in honour of the “spirit of Lindsay”.  The following extracted from “The Gift of Lindsay” (school magazine 1998) conveys something of her contribution to the community:

  • “Her zest for life was wonderfully infectious.
  • Her outward honesty, sense of friendship and fun were balanced by an inner integrity, maturity and wisdom beyond her years and a real sense of dignity.
  • Lindsay placed the highest value on her relationships. Compassion, empathy and a true sense of service were reflected in all her relationships and in all facets of her life.
  • She was committed to caring for others in the new South Africa.
  • Lindsay was the epitome of all that we hoped our girls would be….”

The Lindsay Bennett Award is intended for a girl who instinctively puts others before self, as Lindsay did, and has really “made a difference” to our community. Well done to both students!
