Going Beyond Textbook Pages-IsiZulu Cultural Tour
The isiZulu tour took place over the June half term and offered Girls’ College Grade11 students an unforgettable journey through the heart of Zulu heritage. The trip began with a spirited bus ride to Indlondlo Cultural Village in Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal, where students were immersed in the rhythms and traditions of Zulu life. From the scenic landscapes of colourful homesteads dotting the green hills to the quiet beauty of rural life, this tour offered a look into a culture both rich and welcoming.
Upon arrival at Indlondlo, students were introduced to life in a traditional Zulu village. They participated in hands-on activities like beadwork, weaving grass mats, and using maize mills.
“This journey became more than a cultural exploration; it was a cherished chapter for every student, one that wove their lives together with newfound respect, memories, and friendships—a true celebration of heritage and togetherness.”
At the heart of the experience was an invitation to explore the land and its customs. The tour extended beyond the village, with visits to other landmarks. Students connected the sights and settings with their isiZulu lessons, grounding classroom theory in real-life experience. The immersion in Zulu culture created a deepened understanding and respect beyond textbook pages.
We would like to thank Mrs Xaba, Mrs Mkhize, and Mr Ndlovu for accompanying our students, on this enriching tour.
