Girls' College Grade 10s reading to the Grade R children

November 11, 2022 | Junior Preparatory, Girls’ College

On Monday 31 October we had an exciting cross campus event in Grade R.

The Grade 10 Girls’ College students wrote and illustrated children’s stories, inspired by the style of Dr Seuss, with an African or South African setting. They were encouraged to make up different words and bring in an element of fantasy and surprising elements: the ordinary giving way to the silly and absurd, just like Dr Seuss does.

The Grade 10s made their way across the field to visit the Grade Rs and share these special stories with them. These quirky and fun stories created by the budding College authors explored fun fonts, made-up words and catchy rhyme schemes, which delighted and actively engaged our Grade Rs. The Grade 10s were thoroughly rewarded by the Grade Rs’ appreciation of their work and plenty of hugs and laughter were shared, too.

This is such a wonderful cross campus moment, and it was very special to see the interaction between our Saints students. Our little children sat enraptured in small groups, listening intently as the story tellers entertained them with their literary talents and creative expression.
