Grade 1 Literacy Morning

October 18, 2019 | Junior Preparatory

“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go”

This quote beautifully sums up the knowledge, energy and joy we shared during our Literacy Morning. The coming together of children, teachers, parents and the greater Saints community is always a special occasion.

The children watched excitedly as their playground was transformed into a hub of literacy activities. On this particular Thursday, no longer were we simply approaching the morning monastically, we were given a blank sheet to write our story as we stepped into our very own ‘Narnia’.

The parents were each given a station where they revised a story which had been read by Mrs Viljoen sometime during the course of the year. This was followed by an activity to showcase just how much information the children had retained. The parents enjoyed seeing the children in action and were afforded a small window into our fun filled school day. The children enjoyed seeing the parents ‘teaching’ at school and didn’t hesitate to contribute whenever they had something to add.

We’d like to say thank you to Mrs Viljoen and the amazing team who made the morning possible. We can’t wait to engage with our parent body once again next year. Till then please remember, ‘today a reader, tomorrow a leader’.
