"The value add"

February 09, 2016 | Boys’ Preparatory

While our prep boys learn to practice our school values of Courage, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Love, they have also been challenged as to how they live out their own personal values.

As part of our values curriculum, our boys have been exposed to Saints Values, a sharing of personal values, looking at leadership styles that include leaders leading with values and leaders who do not seem to employ values in their leadership. Furthermore, we have been focusing on values as part of Strategy 2025, Synergy within our College and our School Character.

Our boys are also encouraged to explore various models or leadership styles pertaining to Servant Leadership and or Values Based Leadership.

The Grade Seven boys favoured the following model: Leadership behaviour = Worldview (What is real) + Beliefs (What is true) + Values (What is good) + Behaviour (How do I live?). Here the Iceberg Principle will be used to place their thinking into a visual picture showing what underlines our Saints Behaviour – How we live – How we want the world to see a Saints Boy.

Each boy has also received a Values Based Education Fridge Magnet. We anticipate our boys sharing the details of the magnet with parents so that we can all be aware of our Saints Speak. Furthermore, kindly follow your “Class Story” on Class Dojo where more snapshots of our values in action will be posted.
