The First Mother's Day - May 9, 1914

May 23, 2014 | Boys’ Preparatory

"Think of all the work that mothers do in raising their children. Mothers need to be celebrated! President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed May 9, 1914, the first Mother's Day. He asked Americans on that day to give a public "thank you" to their mothers and all mothers".

Mother's Day is a celebration honouring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Boys' Preparatory affirmed Mothers, Grandmothers and the Special Woman in the lives of our boys – During our Monday Chapel service, our musical boys entertained the Moms with Marimba Bands, Choirs, Musical items as well as some singing from Mrs Reynolds. Poetry, scripture and readings in English, IsiZulu and Sotho added towards ensuring a very special celebration.
