Mindjoy Hackathon

We interact with AI every day - as we type messages, watch Netflix, or stream music! Understanding this technology will be a superpower, and learners who have the ability to engage with this tech will have an advantage in the present and future.

On the 24th, 25th, and 26th of May 2022, Mindjoy, a local EdTech Company, recently sponsored St Stithians Boys’ Prep/College a hackathon valued at R25 000! In a 90-minute event, the students were immersed in a world of code and given the opportunity to learn with some of the most advanced AI technology in the world - GPT-3 (created by OpenAI)!

The mission: create an AI assistant to ‘Hack Your Homework”! The project was designed to get learners thinking about the possibilities of AI, the power of learning coding, and the importance of engaging with technology in a mindful and safe way.

Co-creating with the AI, learners wrote essays about climate change, crafted songs in Russian and French, and wrote poems about the meaning of life.
