A target barometer was put up in the Anne van Zyl Quad to encourage participation in the drive.

As part of the Proudly GC Week during February, the Girls' College Service Committee organised a tinned pet food drive in celebration of Canned Food Month.

For every 100 cans donated, another teacher would compete in the "Ice Bucket Challenge", being drenched in freezing water! Excitement was naturally high throughout the week at this promise.

The collection gained momentum as the final day drew closer. Our target was 500 cans, though as an extra incentive, the price on Dr James' head was 1000 cans! An adorable video from Harvey and Coco (Dr James's furkids) also raised enthusiasm!

As always, GC exceeded expectations, and we collected a total of 640 cans! This collaboration exemplified the goal of Proudly GC Week and the donation was greatly appreciated by the animals at the 4Paws animal shelter.

On Friday, 4 February, spirits were high as the Jabulani Committee started off assembly with djembes and war cries. After much anticipation, the staff arrived. We waited with bated breath as the buckets were lifted over their heads. Students were ecstatic when the water came cascading down, completely soaking Mrs Shaw, Ms Ngiba, Mrs Henning, Mr Sibeko and Mr Bango! In an exciting turn of events, the Head Girls Rachel Mutambara, Sidney Benard and Zoë Mpofu also partook in the challenge!

We thank everyone for their participation!
