Developing Global Citizens Through Round Square

Six Boys’ College students, accompanied by Mrs Gretchen Maruggi, Director: Round Square, and Mr Sandile Khuluse, Deputy Head: Pastoral Care, proudly represented the Boys’ College at the Round Square International Conference (RSIC) 2026 hosted by Barker College in Sydney, Australia. Held under the theme “Visions of the Future from an Ancient Land,” the conference brought together more than 1,200 delegates from 153 schools across 30 countries, creating a dynamic environment for international engagement, leadership development, and cultural exchange.

Throughout the week, our students immersed themselves in a diverse programme that brought the Round Square IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service to life. Highlights included cultural immersion with Australian host families, insightful keynote addresses from respected leaders and athletes, environmental restoration initiatives, community service projects, and collaborative challenges alongside students from around the globe.

The experience challenged participants to step beyond their comfort zones, developing greater confidence, resilience, independence, and adaptability while fostering meaningful international friendships. It also provided a powerful opportunity for students to broaden their perspectives, engage with complex global issues, and gain a deeper appreciation for the value of diversity and intercultural understanding.

As ambassadors, our boys represented the College with distinction while strengthening their commitment to servant leadership and responsible global citizenship. They returned inspired by the experience, enriched by the relationships they formed, and equipped with new insights and skills that will positively influence both their personal growth and their contribution to our community.
