Highest Energy wins

February 15, 2016 | Boys’ Preparatory

Energy is crucial if you want to become more productive: energy is the fuel that you expend over the course of the day in order to get work done, play your sport, sing your heart out or complete your homework.

The staff and boys at boys’ prep have discovered the two way stream of energy investment - you need to spend energy to make energy. For example:

•             It takes energy and willpower to show up at class and produce lessons which fully engage and captivate our boys, but you'll make that energy back, and then some, in increased energy later on as you get rewarded by equal amounts of enthusiastic boys who participate meaningfully and with joy in the lesson

•             It takes energy to prepare healthy meals (and resist unhealthy ones), but you'll get that energy back, too. – It’s good to see our boys are following healthy diets.

•             As a staff (more so us older folk), we have realised It takes energy and some planning to head to bed at a reasonable time, but doing so will give you a ton of energy and focus the next day. (We trust our boys are subscribing to this outlook)

And while you need to spend energy to make energy, you also have to spend time to make energy.

It's easy to look at the choice of working for 30 more minutes versus some form of exercise (make use of Boot Camp, Run for Life, the beautiful campus to name a few) for a half hour, and deciding that working longer will let you get more done. Doing so will let you accomplish more—but only in the short term. In the long-run, productivity tactics like getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising (the staff are trying to get the balance right) will let us ass a preparatory staff bring more energy and focus to our work. Staff (we try) who bring twice the energy and focus to our work will get twice as much done.

Boys’ Prep staff recognize the importance of spending energy—and time—to gain more energy. It is our sincere desire to bring passion into our work place. As a staff, we are gifted with the passion from our boys.

Our passion and energy is fuelled by our boys and we hope, we ignite a passion and energy in each boy as they feel part of a school which offers them an energized day.
