Boys' Prep Rites of Passage

Capping Ceremony

One of the first rites of passage for a student as he begins his journey at the Boys’ Prep, is the Capping Ceremony which was recently held in the Chapel. All Grade Three boys participate, as do boys in other grades who are new to the school. Each boy rings the bell as he enters, signifying the start of his journey at the Boys' Prep. He is accompanied down the aisle by his Grade Seven buddy (in the case of the Grade Threes), with his buddy carrying the cap in his own blazer pocket.  At the front of the chapel, both boys are greeted by Mr Majola, the Head of School, and Mr Olivier, Deputy Head. The cap is then placed on the new student's head and he is required to wear it with pride as part of his uniform. The Chapel bell will be rung again in Grade Seven, when the student leaves the Boys' Prep to enter high school. We welcome all the new boys into our community, and wish them and their families a joyous journey with us.
