Grade RR Sports Day

September 23, 2022 | Junior Preparatory

Our first Grade RR sports day took place on 15 September and the children were excited to showcase all that they had learnt. The grade was divided into 6 groups and they worked their way through 6 activities in turn. The variety of activities covered a range of skills that promote physical, cognitive and social development. We specifically focused on:

  • Understanding and following instructions (touching the coloured cones)
  • Exploring our understanding of our body parts (using different locomotion patterns and touching a body part to a nose cone)
  • Exploring the prepositions of under and over to expand working knowledge (the obstacle course)
  • Planning and completing a movement pattern efficiently (catching a rolling hoop)
  • Developing bi-lateral integration and crossing the midline (jumping through the hopscotch pattern)
  • Developing spatial awareness and motor planning (rolling a big ball at a target)

During the event the children learnt how to wait their turn, how to follow the structure of an activity, to cooperate with their peers and their teacher, to persevere and to enjoy the moment. They thoroughly enjoyed the activities and proudly showed off their abilities.

The parents cheered excitedly and enthusiastically for their children at each one of the stations. The day was concluded with the parents’ tug-o-war activity. All of the class’s parents participated with gusto and determination hoping to pull the ribbon across the line. Team work was displayed with much eagerness.

Well done children, we are so proud of you!

Thank you to everyone who was involved in the organizing and running of the morning.
