Grade One Orienteering Evening

March 25, 2022 | Junior Preparatory

On 3 March 2022 the Grade One children participated in an Orienteering Event with a parent. It was wonderful to have our parents onsite again and to participate in this special event, specifically designed for our Grade One children. What is Orienteering and what did they do? Orienteering is a group of sports that require navigational skills, using a map to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants were given a topographical map of St Stithians College, a specially prepared orienteering map, which they used to find control points around our beautiful campus.

O-Ventures is the company that ran the event for us.  We orienteered in classes, leaving at different exit points. This comprised a ten-minute overview of orienteering on the Village Green and a forty-minute orienteering event on the school property followed by a picnic. Some classes had their picnic first, followed by their orienteering.

The event was a great success, enjoyed by all the children and parents. Orienteering is part of our Outdoor Education programme, which helps to enrich the lives of our children by giving them new experiences and a real sense of achievement.
