EdTech at Girls' Prep

St Stithians Girls’ Prep is always abuzz with excitement in our EdTech space. Our Girls are always looking forward to the next great “Tech” adventure, and we always have one ready and waiting.

EdTech is a space where each learner can find their inner “techie” because the motto in our EdTech classes is #everyonecancode. Our girls find inspiration in gaming, coding, robotics, animation, and movie making. They are given the opportunity to be creative in their space. We always reiterate the 4 Cs in our lessons:

Creativity

Coding

Communication

Collaboration

These are implemented in everything we do. From Grades 3- 7 all the girls code, from offline activities, coding a story, coding a game, or coding a robot, their coding skills are utilised.

From Bee-Bots to Ev3 robots, the classroom it is always kept lively with robots and excited learners love navigating the robots around obstacles in various learning environments.

The girls also love exploring parts of robots and what makes them work, which has them using vocabulary such as “mother boards” and researching how things work. This curiosity has inspired most girls to work on amazing projects and use the Inquiry Based Learning to explore their chosen topics further.

Our amazing coding and robotics do not only end in the classrooms, we also run an absolutely amazing coding and robotics club where girls are challenged even more. In this space they are given much more complex challenges and problem-solving is a huge part of their learning. In this space, girls get to work on their passions, from App Development, gaming, and robotics. Our Grade 6/7 robotics club also has the opportunity to participate in the ISRL- Inter School robotics League, where they will compete against other schools around Johannesburg.

Our biggest passion in our EdTech classes, is to inspire each one of these girls to be daring and grow an inquisitive mind. At Girls’ Prep, we want to inspire an era of learners to build their own games, their own apps and invent new robots, because girls CAN Code and in EdTech that’s where they find their inspiration.
