Earlier today, I attended a Founders Day event at my children’s school. The theme of the event was “Courage to Begin”. As I listened to one of the speakers, I picked up some learnings which I resolved to share with my children, through the write up below.

Hey guys, I know you’ve heard me say “Every day is a new beginning – a chance to do things better”. The theme of today’s event – “Courage to Begin”, is meaningful for many reasons. It certainly means different things to different people. In life, you will often face new challenges and opportunities. There’s that initial feeling of excitement, often followed by fear of the unknown and self-doubt. That’s normal so don’t sweat it, just remember today’s message about having the “Courage to Begin”. Here’s what I heard today.

Excellence in everything.....excellence multiplied: doesn’t mean we always get excellent results, however by making an excellent effort we contribute towards the desired outcome – making a World of Difference. Changing our mindsets – nurturing a growth mindset: For me this means, we need to have the courage to learn new things, nurture good habits and unlearn bad ones. You’ve heard me talk about having a growth mindset before and the importance of continuous learning. Learn new ways of doing things and don’t be afraid to unlearn some stuff as well.

Know Yourself: Who am I? What do I stand for? What am I passionate about? Thought provoking questions which we all struggle with, especially as we change and evolve over time. I must know myself, be myself, act myself in every situation and create good habits of the mind. Habits which build character. Build up others, never tear down. All great learnings from today’s guest speakers.

Remember, there is a divinity which shapes our lives though the outcome is often a measure of how often we push forward with strength and courage. So be strong and nurture the Courage to Begin...
