Boys' Preparatory Journey

May 09, 2014 | Boys’ Preparatory

We are on a wonderful journey at Boys' Prep, following a path with many twists and turns, and this exciting journey is far from complete. While some may be on autopilot, I sense the majority have woken up to reality, and realised that we have the power to grab the wheel and take control. When we journey collectively, the rewards are infinite.

If we look back on the journey to our Easter break we can only but marvel at the wonderful Easter Sports Festival which showcased our College and highlighted the synergy between our five schools – a further reminder to the community as to what a special place Saints is. Our Preparatory First Rugby Team played in the St John's Rugby Festival. Not only did they play some outstanding Rugby but they were also excellent ambassadors of our school. (Please view the All in One Newsletter or our Blog page to read a detailed account of their festival performance).

The Easter break was also an opportunity for some of our Grade 7 Dads & Lads and accompanying staff to enjoy some river rafting. This wet and wild journey further reflected the camaraderie and positive spirit that we are so blessed to have amongst staff, parents and our boys. (Details of this event can also be viewed on our News Blog).

Our College has also played its part along the journey of assisting our fellow man. The College was open to the community on 7 May, where blood donation and voting took place. It was extremely encouraging to see the queues outside the JP Hall voting station as our community cast their votes with great interest and passion for our country. One and All were able to enjoy the journey of our democracy.

I am reminded of this quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt - "Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education." Naturally, education is serious business and I daily get to see the Boys' Preparatory staff deliver outstanding levels of passion, energy, varied pedagogy, real life lessons and most importantly a respect and love for each boy in our school. I am confident that our boys are being prepared with the relevant skills to succeed in education and to succeed on their journey of becoming both gentleman and upstanding citizens of our beloved country.

As we have completed a third of our journey for this year, we need to ask – 'Where are we going'?

Truthfully, the answer to this question, I believe will be revealed to us all in time. Sure, we have a set course within each of our Educational Pillars (Academic, Sport, Culture, Leadership and Service). However, I trust that for now, we must leave the answer open ended and I encourage One and All to make their mark on the 2014 Boys' Preparatory journey.

Wishing you all an exciting journey.
