Boys' College Matric Results 2019

St Stithians College embraces the opportunity to ‘take care of the rising generation’, the evocative injunction of Methodist Church founder, John Wesley. We celebrate our 2019 Matric results in this spirit. This pinnacle of academic achievement in each student’s career is woven into a wider tapestry of educational outcomes.
The curriculum at St Stithians is demanding and stretching, including our leadership projects, diverse extra-mural programmes, outdoor education, community engagement and citizenship initiatives. As we celebrate our outstanding academics, who are among the best in the country, we salute each student for achieving their personal best in the long and hard-working journey towards Matric.
Our staff nurture each student along a path of personal growth in learning and self-confidence. Our approach to enrolment is inclusive of students with barriers to academic learning. We encourage personalised learning styles, creating life skills for the fast-changing worlds of work, entrepreneurship and the digital age. The academic statistics and numeric profiles are important to St Stithians, both for our students applying for places in tertiary institutions and for our College’s standing in the competitive marketplace of top South African schools. Of longer-term significance are the broad learning outcomes and values of our educational offering.
The Matric results are the outcome of each student’s talents and effort, enabled by the professional expertise of our teachers and the support of our parents. We admire the positive work ethic among our students. We salute the dedication, nurture and motivation of our teachers and administration staff, who create optimal learning environments. We appreciate the support of parents and guardians. The triad of students, staff and parents is at the heart of an engaged and purposeful St Stithians education.
Many tributaries flow into the Matric experience. Early learning in the foundation phase and in primary schooling creates the building blocks of knowledge, skill, values and self-belief. We honour the contributions of the Junior Prep, the Boys’ Prep, the Girls’ Prep and Kamoka Bush School at St Stithians – and all the primary schools that shaped our Matriculants.
We affirm our commitment as St Stithians, shaped by our Methodist Church ethos, to the education of young people of character, who we expect to make an impact as leaders and citizens in South Africa, the rest of Africa and in a global context.

To the Boys’ College Matric Class of 2019 - A Message from Mr du Toit about the Matric Results
Dear Matrics
You have completed your full school journey! The results you have achieved now are hopefully the sum of your best efforts and will be the springboard to the next chapter of your unique story that you are writing. It is a pleasure to write to you all and congratulate you on these very pleasing results. As a group of young men, you have shown tremendous character in your Matric year and have collectively achieved much that we as a school have celebrated. Through your determined efforts, your perseverance, your fearless thinking and your ability to produce your best when under the greatest pressure you have produced your best academic achievements. Today I commend each of you for your contributions to the Boys’ College over the past five years. You have made your mark and have made the Saints community, your families and your Class of 2019 peers very proud.
At this time of celebration, it is important to thank all those who have supported you, cared for you and encouraged you through your Matric year and through your examinations. Your good work ethic and positive attitude are important ingredients but none of us stand alone in our achievements and the input of others is also part of the recipe for your success. I remind you that being grateful and expressing your gratitude is a mark of a Saints Knight. We can express collective gratitude to your teachers for their care and high-quality instruction and to your families for their unwavering support and belief in you.

On your behalf I also thank the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), which ran an examination system of the highest standard.
School is about much more than your academic results and as a group you have enjoyed the full experience of a rich and varied schooling experience. What I have appreciated has been your deep passion for your school and how the vast majority of you have been involved beyond the classroom through your love for the arts, sport and community engagement. Throughout the year we have emphasised that you are a sum of many parts and that through your multiple involvements in school life are developing your character, your social and emotional skills and your academic competence such that you are prepared for your role as a leading global citizen. These Matric results are the final piece in the mosaic that is you as a school student. You are prepared.
In January 2019 I shared this quote with you in our Baraza. I leave you with this as a reminder:
‘Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.’ (Roy T Bennett)
As I bid you the very best for your future I trust that you will remember the lessons and values you have learnt at the Boys’ College, and that these will stand you in good stead as you go forward with your lives. Continue to Honour God, Honour Others and Honour Self and to live out John Wesley’s invitation to ‘Do all the good you can …, as long as ever you can.’ We look forward to you remaining connected to the Saints family.
I look forward to hearing of your success in life, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Warm regards
Mr David du Toit
