The Magic of Synergy Morning in Grade Three Girls’ and Boys’ Preps
What is “Book in a Box”?
Book in a Box is an engaging literary activity that sparks creativity and encourages students to explore a favourite book in a unique way. Here’s how it works:
1. Select a Book: Each student chooses a beloved book they’ve read recently. It could be a classic fairy tale, an adventure story, or even a non-fiction book.
2. Create a Box: Students then create a special box that represents their chosen book. The box becomes a mini treasure chest filled with clues, symbols, and items related to the story.
3. Dress as a Character: On the designated Synergy Morning, students come to school dressed as a character from their book. Whether it’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid or the Very Hungry Caterpillar, their costumes add an exciting touch to the event.
4. Share the Story: During the course of the morning, students take turns presenting their Book in a Box. They describe the plot, characters, and key elements using the items inside their boxes. It’s like a mini show-and-tell session, but with a literary twist!
Why Synergy Matters:
· Literacy Celebration: Synergy celebrates the joy of reading and storytelling. It reinforces the importance of literature in our lives.
· Creativity Boost: Crafting the boxes encourages creativity. Students think critically about how to represent their book visually, choosing objects that symbolise its essence.
· Public Speaking Practice: Presenting in front of peers hones communication skills. Students gain confidence as they share their love for literature.
· Community Building: By dressing up and sharing their stories, students connect with each other. It’s a bonding experience that fosters a sense of community within the Girls’ Preparatory and Boys’ Preparatory.
But most of all, the boys and girls got to have fun!
