Annual Arts Festival Synergy Day

Grade 3 girls and boys had their fill of dance mania, grooving at a 'silent disco' and then hip-hopping 'til they dropped! Grade 4 were treated to a mosaic-making workshop, followed by an explosive Zumba class in the gym. Our Grade 5 pupils channeled their inner astronaut by launching rockets to rival those of NASA's and followed this with a delve into drama, participating in a wild and 'off-the-wall' theatre sports class.

The Grade 6 boys and girls impressed us all with their loom band bracelet making skills, followed by a story to match the colour combinations of elastics, in the style of isiZulu beaded love letters. Later in the day, they caused a stir with their gumboot dancing routines, as taught by the artists from Drum Cafe.

Finally, Grade 7s beaded South African flag key rings, which gave our pupils an insight into the exacting skill and genius that goes into the creation of the many wire beaded pieces we see every day, yet take for granted. A drumming workshop finished of their experience of South African Arts and Culture at its finest. Add to this a performance by the Dukes and a Girls' College a capella choir, a duet and solo, a one-act play and story-telling, one could be forgiven for thinking this was a day at the Grahamstown Arts Festival! Arts and Culture is alive and flourishing at the Prep Schools!
