The results of the District Netball Championships held at St Stithians on 25th June proved that the school’s netball teams are hard to beat.

Karen Prinsloo, Deputy Head at St Stithians, was particularly proud of the standard of play. “This is the first time we have had medal winners in all age groups. The teams came out of the Championships with 2 golds, 2 silvers and a bronze – an outstanding achievement!”

However, Prinsloo had compliments for all the teams that played in the Championships. “The standard of school netball in this country is very high, and it’s gratifying to see so many schools encouraging their girls to achieve excellence. The support for the game is growing, and we expect to see some of the exceptional talent shown at the Championships to be nurtured to international levels.”

The finals were fiercely contested, with many of the games going to extra time. “Our 1st team narrowly lost to St Andrews by 1 goal in extra time – it was a really exciting game to watch, with the supporters very vocal in their encouragement! Congratulations to all the teams that took part in the Championships, and our thanks to all the coaches, players, umpires and organisers for a most successful end to the season.”
