The energy on campus is electric as the College readies itself for it’s first Sports Fest since 2019! All that it takes for the Fest to run smoothly is happening at the moment with marquees, tents and stands being erected, lines on fields being freshly painted, workers trying their hardest to meet deadlines and staff and parents doing their NO-Rain Dances to keep the rain at bay. The excitement is growing and very soon it all begins!
Behind the scenes there are the more than 1 200 young sportswomen and sportsmen from across the country who have been training hard leading up to the Festival, hoping their team has a chance of proving themselves against the others. One of those teams is our very own Thandulwazi Soccer Team, made up of Learners from the Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy Saturday School Programme. They have been training every Saturday after Saturday School and are ready and rearing to go!
This past Saturday was a great day for the players as thanks to various donors we managed to put together the most awesome kit which was presented to them by none other than Brendon Peterson and Bernhard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs fame! A huge thank you must go to Play It Forward Jozi for organising each player a pair of brand-new soccer boots through the Converged Group, what a treat for the boys – they were over the moon! And also to the many donors who contributed towards the uniform supplied by DTR Sports who also donated 10 soccer balls and a pair of goalie gloves! Our boys were very spoilt and left the auditorium with huge smiles and lots of chattering. It is going to be an awesome Festival and Team Thandulwazi is ready for action – watch out for our boys in blue!
