St Stithians Girls' College makes waves - a celebration of swimming & diving

Congratulations to the following Girls’ College swimmers who qualified and swam in the South African Senior Nationals Gala which took place during the April holidays in Gqeberha. Leigh-Ann van der Vyver, Cleo Lin, Chelsea White, Kirsten Storm and Jessica Thompson. The gala this year doubled as Olympic Trials and it was a huge achievement for the students to qualify to swim at this prestigious gala. They competed against the best swimmers in the country and certainly all gained a lot of experience. Please see some of the individual results below:
 

Jessica Thompson
• Made five A finals; 50m Butterfly, Freestyle and Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and Backstroke. She placed 2nd in the 50m Butterfly and 3rd in the 50m Freestyle. In the 50m Freestyle event she narrowly missed an Olympic qualifying time by 0.35 seconds. Jessica broke the U16 record for the 50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle, which is a phenomenal achievement.


Chelsea White
• Made two B finals; 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual Medley. She placed 2nd for the 400m Individual Medley.


Kirsten Storm
• Made one B final for 100m Butterfly, where she placed 3rd.

Congratulations to Gemma Weyers and Katherine Leschner on their Youth National Diving results. This meeting took place in Durban during the April holidays. Please see their individual placings below:
