Our Heritage Celebrated!

September 30, 2022 | Junior Preparatory

The Junior Prep and staff had a fun day celebrating Heritage Day.

On Friday 23 September children presented their Family Heritage Booklet projects to each other to learn about and appreciate a culture different to their own. They shared the things that make their culture special and different, discussing their diversity and enjoying their individuality. In the process, the children gained an understanding of themselves, and realized that we can only be who we really are when we interact with others.

We shared traditional treats from droewors, melktert, maas, steamed bread and koeksisters as well as German, Italian, Greek, Italian, Scottish and Asian delicacies to name a few.  Food certainly brought us all together, in the spirit of sharing cultures and treats.

The realization that the very things that make us unique, also allow us to belong to multiple communities was a common thread weaving through the various grades. The drivers and provocations stemming from our Inquiry Based Learning formed the basis of the emergent themes of conversation. These discussions will be ongoing as we endeavour to answer our big question: ‘What does ‘heritage’ mean?’

We thank our parent community for continuing to reflect your heritage through your children and walk the journey of belonging and diversity with us.
