Our Founders Would Be Proud

June 08, 2014 | Boys’ Preparatory

Founders' Day is a great day to honour our Founders Albert Charles Collins and William Mountstephens and to celebrate our values. It provides us the opportunity to reflect briefly on the history of our College, to highlight important recent accomplishments, and to describe some of our vision for its future.

At the prep, we have "said" to the boys: If you have a dream... if you want to serve and make a difference... if you have intellectual curiosity... if you want to look beyond the current scope of your vision and make a meaningful contribution... then come, and let us learn and grow together.

We believe that Collins and Mountstephens would be very proud of St. Stithians College today:

  • They would be proud of our teaching;
  • They would be proud of our student-friendly environments;
  • They would be proud of the synergy of schools both on campus and at Kamoka Bush School;
  • They would be proud of our Saturday Thandulwazi teacher training and Saturday student training.
  • They would be proud of the risks we take, our Outreach programmes
  • They would be proud of our drive to continue our links with Cornwall and the village of Stythian.
  • They would be proud of St. Stithians College starting Penryn College in Nelspruit.
  • They would be proud of our focus on traditional values and the continuation of our Methodist faith;
  • They would be proud of the leaders we produce;
  • They would be proud of our accomplishments; and,
  • They would be proud of the contributions St. Stithians College is making to the world.

It is our commitment to the vision, generosity and values shown by Collins and Mountstephens that causes us to renew our pledge to make academic quality our guiding theme, we combine that pledge with our Saints Honour as well as a renewed emphasis on ensuring that St. Stithians College continues to make a world of difference.

Substance to that emphasis can be seen in the diversity of our students, the varied cultures within our schools, the contributions and positive interactions between the schools and our community and the wonderful young men and woman that leave the College and contribute as leaders and professionals towards our nation.

We are optimistic about the future because we have seen the transformation that our students make over their time at St. Stithians College. We are hopeful because we have seen our Saints Honour in action.

We think our Founders would indeed be proud.
