Mandela Day

July 20, 2017 | Junior Preparatory

On 18 July the Junior Prep celebrated the legacy that Nelson Mandela left behind. The children were encouraged to perform “acts of kindness” throughout the day, recognising that in the words of Madiba, “It is in our hands to make the world a better place”. The children then chose one of their “acts of kindness”, wrote it onto a piece of cardboard and attached it to the Gateway Entrance gate. The fence around the Gateway was transformed by the colourful messages from the children and was a wonderful way to welcome parents and visitors to our school.

In addition to this the Grade R children collected enough jumble to complete the number ‘67’ on our oval. The Grade 1 children picked up litter around the school and the Grade 2 children are collecting tinned food. A big thank you to our many grannies, moms, staff and children who knitted squares for our ongoing scarf and blanket drive.

Mandela Day is a reminder to everyone that we all have the power to make a difference and help change the world around us for the better.

Let us strive to make every day a Mandela Day!
