Interhouse Activites at Girls' Prep!

October 25, 2023 | Girls’ Preparatory | Author: Interhouse Music and Interhouse Sport - the day of competition!

Levels of competitiveness reached epic proportions at our recent combined interhouse music and athletics meeting. All tastes and interests were catered for as our girls sang, danced, ran, jumped and cheered their way to the finish line. What a day of fun and festivities – we already cannot wait for next year’s contest!

Music

Part one of our Interhouse Music Competition consisted of individual music items and took place on the last day of Term 2. Then, on 13 October, a scorching hot Friday on Ridgeway Field, the competition reached its electrifying climax.

Mass house items were featured, where the air was filled with nervous energy, and unparalleled enthusiasm. Houses sang and moved in harmony, to a playlist that paid tribute to iconic and inspiring local and international female artists. Each house, in its own distinctive way, contributed to exciting entertainment, weaving a tapestry of creativity, rhythm, and flair that will be remembered for years to come.

Adjudicators from Boys’ Prep, Girls’ College, and Girls’ Prep watched attentively and their scores, when combined with the earlier scores from part one, revealed the thrilling outcome: Cambourne, taking the winning cup, Trewen securing second place, Stratton earning the third spot, and Kenwyn, with their extraordinary performance, clinched fourth place. The girls poured their hearts into it, and there can be no doubt that our Grade 7 students did a commendable job in crafting unforgettable and touching presentations.

Athletics

Our Interhouse Athletics meet took place after the incredible music competition mentioned above.  This is one event where all our girls are encouraged to participate. To put this into perspective, we had 100 girls participate in the various 800m grade events and long jump events. Every girl also participated in a sprint event. Grade 7 students decorated the stands, cheered their houses along and arranged non-stop spirit cries until the last race was run.

One of the highlights of the afternoon were the 3 teams of teachers who participated in the Grade 7 ‘A-relay’ against the girls! No more needs to be said around who came in first for this event; suffice it to say that the staff will need a great deal more training!

The results were as follows:

  • Stratton 409
  • Kenwyn 384
  • Trewen 373
  • Cambourne 310

Congratulations to Trewen, who took the Spirit Cup.

These events develop many skills for our girls and give our Grade 7s the leadership opportunities which are important to them and their development. We are blessed to see so much team spirit, laughter and girls having great fun, both on the day, as well as in the lead up to our interhouse competitions. Well done, One & All!
