Green Fingers

Grade 4 students had loads of fun growing a Bean Plant. The objective was to investigate, 'What do seeds need to Germinate?' Plants need certain environmental conditions in which to grow. The seed germinates into an adult. 'Germinate' is used when referring to the development of a seed as it begins to grow. Plants need an optimum amount of water, air, temperature and light. Students kept a bean diary where they monitored the growth of the bean. Some boys were excited when their seeds grew into healthy plants while others were disappointed when their seeds did not grow. They were then required to write a report about why their experiment was successful or not.
