Grade 4 and 5 Camp Adventures!
Grade 4
Every year, the Grade 4 girls eagerly anticipate their first school camp, and for many, it is a highlight of their entire Grade 4 experience. This year was no exception.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Magaliesberg hills, the camp provided the perfect environment for the girls to step out of their comfort zones, face new challenges, and strengthen bonds with their classmates.
The carefully crafted activities were designed to build essential life skills, promote teamwork and create cherished memories. From navigating obstacle courses to tackling group challenges, each activity was an opportunity for the girls to develop trust and cooperation.
Among the memorable highlights were the team-building exercises, creative tie-dying, swimming in the refreshingly cold pool and the enchanting campfire. In every team activity, the focus was on collaboration, effective communication, mutual support and respect. A tie-dying session allowed students to express their artistic flair, with each unique design reflecting their individual personalities. The fashion show was a delightful display of creativity where our girls showcased their creations using recycled materials. Teachers also joined in the fun, designing their own outfits and confidently walking the runway with bemused students! The evening culminated in a magical campfire where we sang songs, shared stories, and enjoyed each other's company. It was a heartwarming experience that brought everyone closer together.
The camp was a tremendous success, and the girls returned with bright smiles and countless stories to share. They learned invaluable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and the rewards of stepping beyond their usual boundaries.
We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to the last few months with them as we complete the Grade 4 year.
Grade 5
On a cool morning on Wednesday 11 September, the Grade 5s set off for their tour to Camp Discovery. There was much excitement and a few nerves as they waved goodbye to their parents.
Upon our arrival at Camp Discovery, we were warmly greeted by the facilitators, directed to our rooms and set up our beds, making things feel a bit more like home. We then jumped straight into icebreakers and team-building activities. Working in groups, we faced challenges that could only be solved with teamwork, relying on communication skills and listening to a variety of ideas.
The ‘mudstacle’ course was the highlight of the first day. The girls showed determination and grit as they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, walking and sitting in mud, crawling through muddy water, climbing structures, and walking ropes before swinging back into the water.
Day two started bright and early. We worked in small groups to solve problems together. There was downtime as each group went on a game drive and played some fun indoor games to escape the scorching heat. We ended a very hot and busy day with some night swimming at our pool party, which was just what the doctor ordered before we all collapsed into our beds.
Our final day involved more big group activities and team sports. The archery and air-rifle activities allowed the girls to try something new, and many were surprised by how difficult it is to shoot accurately as well as how much upper-body strength is required.
As the girls challenged themselves to do more and step out of their comfort zones, we saw them develop new friendships. Many persevered and pushed through personal challenges to accomplish and complete the tasks.
The bus ride home was calm and quiet as the girls rested, chatted and looked forward to seeing their families for a relaxing weekend.
We would like to thank the staff for accompanying the girls on this tour and the parents for allowing them the opportunity to attend Camp Discovery. A wonderful three days was had by One & All.
