Grade 1 Winter Storytelling Evening
“We will come to school at night, in our pyjamas!” squealed a Grade One student, with much excitement. This was in anticipation of the magical experience of the Winter Storytelling Evening that was held on 25 July. On this chilly evening, Grade One students came back to their classrooms dressed in their pyjamas, with a soft toy and warm blanket in hand. Snuggling up on the carpet and listening to stories was the order of the evening.
Storytelling is a powerful tradition that is passed on from generation to generation. As long as there have been people, there have been stories. Stories teach, entertain and engage. There are many benefits to reading aloud to children and teachers know this best. This special occasion provided an opportunity for Grade One teachers to share their love for books with their students.
At 17h55, the Grade One corridors were unusually abuzz as children arrived for the event. There were conversations and wonderings about the books that would be read. The children were delightfully surprised to see that their teachers were also in their cosy attire. Once settled on the carpet with their soft toys, blankets and pillows, the children enjoyed a wonderful hour of stories read by their class teacher. They were also treated to a delicious dessert in between stories. The children’s interaction with the stories was a joy to see.
Thank you One and All for making this night a memorable one.
