A matric dance is a milestone event in many matric students' lives, marking a special right of passage in their high school journey. It is an evening filled with glamour, excitement, and a sense of accomplishment as students gather to celebrate their achievements and bid farewell to their school years. Decked out in elegant attire, students dance the night away, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our "Down the Rabbit Hole" theme promised an enchanting journey into a world of whimsical wonder, inspired by Lewis Carroll's timeless tale, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." As students stepped into the venue, they were transported to a realm where reality blended with fantasy, and ordinary rules ceased to exist. The décor was a spectacle of surrealism, with oversized flowers, clocks suspended in mid-air, twinkling candle lights and larger-than-life table centrepieces adorning the space. Amidst the enchantment, was a time for laughter, friendship, and nostalgia as students reflect on the moments shared throughout their school years that will linger long after the night had ended. The "Down the Rabbit Hole" theme invited students to embrace their curiosity, embrace the unexpected, and embark on an unforgettable adventure as they celebrate the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

As I reflect on the wonderful memories of our matric dance, I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the Grade 11 Matric Dance Committee and Mrs Louise Eicher for their invaluable contributions that made this evening truly magical. Their dedication, support, and hard work was instrumental in ensuring that every aspect of the dance was a success. From organizing the venue to coordinating the decorations, from planning the music to managing the logistics, their generosity of time, energy, and expertise made a significant difference and left a lasting impact on all who attended.

- Mrs Sylvia van Jaarsveldt (Grade 11 Seriti Director)

"Since the beginning of the year the Matric Dance was all anyone could ever talk about. The excitement in our grade was tangible and after all that time, I am delighted to say that it lived up to the expectation.

As my dad drove me and my date into the Indaba Hotel I was hit with nerves and excitement that consumed my whole being, and as I stepped out the car and travelled the walk in, I was consumed by the love that was being shown by the Girls’ College community who came to watch us. The Grade 8s handed me roses as I entered and the shouts of excitement for us, felt surreal. On top of all of that the dedication the Grade 11s put in to making the venue look like an absolute dream truly took my breath away. The attention to detail and the love that went into the event was palpable.

The 18th of May is a night we will never forget, and it was incredibly special to be able to experience that night with my matric family. The love I have for my grade and the way we boost each other’s confidence is indescribable and as I told them at the dance, there is no other group of people I would have wanted to do high school with."

The Grade 11 Matric Dance Committee embarked on a mission to create an enchanting and extraordinary evening, guiding the matric learners on the pathway "Down the Rabbit Hole" into a mystical realm of wonder and magic.

Planning and preparing for the Matric Dance was an exciting challenge and took a lot of sacrifice. The journey began in 2023 when we were given the theme for the evening and our committee was formed, and despite the challenges encountered along the way, the team persevered, learning valuable lessons in problem-solving, teamwork, and mutual respect. Countless hours were dedicated to brainstorming, planning, and executing every aspect of the event, from the intricate decorations to the delectable sweets table. Each member of the committee took on specific roles and responsibilities, contributing their unique talents and skills to bring the vision to life. We spent many afternoons designing and making the menus, table seating chart and decorations.

With us being told to trust the process, the Saturday morning setup unfolded into a joyous celebration, filled with laughter and music. The culmination of months of hard work and planning resulted in a night that surpassed all expectations, thanks to the guidance and support of Mrs Van Jaarsveldt and Mrs Eichner, whose dedication was truly appreciated. The committee's collective efforts and sacrifices ensured that the matric learners experienced a truly magnificent and unforgettable evening, marking the culmination of their high school journey with grace and splendour. We are so glad we trusted the process!
