Exploring Simple Machines in Grade R IT
This week in Grade R IT, students were introduced to the six simple machines and explored why they are important in our everyday lives. The focus was on the lever, where children learned what it is, how it works, and where we might find it in familiar objects around them. Through discussion and examples, they began to understand how simple machines help make tasks easier and more efficient.
Bringing their learning to life, the children worked collaboratively to build their own seesaws using Duplo, carefully following step-by-step instruction cards. Once completed, they had the opportunity to test their designs and observe how the lever worked in action. The excitement continued as they added their own creative touches, modifying and enhancing their builds to make them unique, while exploring and experimenting through play. This activity encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they shared ideas and learned from one another.
