Stronger Together: Celebrating World Mental Health Day

| Junior Preparatory, Campus

To celebrate World Mental Health Day, our Junior Prep staff and students came together for a week of meaningful learning, reflection and celebration centred around this year’s theme, “Stronger Together.” Through age-appropriate discussions and activities, the children explored the importance of looking after their mental health, developing healthy habits and recognising how kindness, encouragement and supporting one another can make a meaningful difference in our daily lives.

Our Music and Drama lessons added a colourful and creative dimension to the celebrations. Inspired by My Many Coloured Days by Dr Seuss, students explored how different colours can represent different feelings and emotions. Dressed in coloured fabric, the children enthusiastically brought the story to life through movement, rhythm and song. Using the book as a springboard, they created repeated rhythmic patterns to match the emotions and colours they encountered, working collaboratively to develop movement sequences and musical ideas. The experience concluded with the lively Rainbow Song, leaving students smiling, engaged and celebrating the many colourful emotions that make us unique.

On Friday 9 October, the Junior Prep was filled with colour as staff and students arrived dressed in colours that made them feel happy, confident and joyful. We gathered on the Village Green for a vibrant community celebration, with each class bringing their “Stronger Together” paper chain to join with the others in the centre of the oval. Every link featured a drawing or sentence representing something that helps a child feel calm, happy or supported. Joined together, the chains became a powerful visual reminder of the connection, care and encouragement shared within our Junior Prep family.

The day reinforced the important message that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. Whether through listening, offering help, sharing encouragement or speaking kindly, our children reflected on the many ways they can support those around them and remind others that they are never alone.

It was a joyful celebration of colour, creativity, connection and kindness and a wonderful reminder that when it comes to nurturing our wellbeing, we truly are stronger together.
