Dads and Lads Rugby Drills

June 23, 2015 | Boys’ Preparatory

A father's/dads influence on his son's personal development is often unseen but nonetheless real. Focusing on our sons, spending positive time together and talking about life lessons, scattered with a large dose of quiet and engaged listening, will help fathers and sons develop nurturing and meaningful relationships and help our boys form attitudes which will allow them to develop into men in the richest sense of the term.

The effort put into fatherhood is a man's most important WORK. As a young boy watches his father interact with his mother, he learns about respect (or disrespect), about how men and women interact and about how men should deal with conflict and differences. As he watches his dad interact with other men, he will learn how men talk, how they relate with one another and how they deal with issues.

Within the normal context of interacting with our boys, we as staff proudly observe the quality of the relationships that exists between our boys and their dads. Saturday’s dad/Lads activity of “rugby drills” proved to be more than simply getting enthusiasm generated for the change in sporting codes.

What a joy it was to see our dad/lads fully engaged with their sons.

Sure our dads chosen sporting attire as viewed by onlookers might not have reflected their once agile, coordinated and sporting ability; instead, the laughter, excitement and enthusiasm of our dads to take part in the various drills were admirable. The staff continually commented on the wonderful reward it was seeing the love showed between the boys and their dads. The genuine affection and interest by each dad shown to his son, added to a morning filled with fond memories.

Thank you to all the dads and sons who were able to support this initiative. Our prep and our boys are blessed to have such engaging and supportive parents.
